More People May Need Motoring Lawyers Due To Council Scheme

It is no surprise that many of those accused of driving offences seek the assistance of a motoring lawyer to help them fight their cases. After all, the prospect of losing their licenses or facing large fines or even imprisonment can be very daunting.

Meanwhile, the number of people who require legal assistance of this kind may rise in the London borough of Sutton. The local authority in charge of the area has installed more than 80 cameras in a bid to catch motorists who break the rules, Your Local Guardian reports.

It is also considering bringing in another CCTV car to enforce moving traffic offences.

Previously, traffic enforcement was done by police, but this has stopped in recent years. During a recent meeting, councillors denied that the increased enforcement was designed as a “cash cow” to raise funds for the local authority’s parking service.

Councillor Simon Wales said: “Responsible drivers will not notice any difference at all. This is not aimed at catching people out or making money through tickets – the council is simply taking over responsibility for traffic offences which used to be covered by the police.”

He added that most boroughs in the English capital have already implemented similar measures “very successfully”.

Councillor Wales went on to remark: “We’ll be able to work with local committees to find out about accident black spots or congested areas that residents want us to help with and give power for traffic control back to local people.”

He also suggested that the added cameras will make the roads safer for motorists and for those who use public transport, cycle or walk in the area.

People who stand accused of driving offences after being caught on camera may benefit from getting in touch with a motoring lawyer to help them fight their cause.
