Signposting

Signposting is of things that we barely notice. Yet signs are used all over the place. Without them, many firms could not function. An example of this is a company who is involved in the storage or distribution of goods.

They use signposting in their warehouses and distribution centres to help their workers find their way around these vast buildings. Without good signs, they would be unable to function and get the right goods to their retail outlets.

Why Good Signposting Is Important in a Warehouse

Even in a small warehouse environment, good quality signposting is vital. This is because even a relatively small warehouse will have several hundred slots and picking locations. If each location is not clearly labelled up the risk of the wrong goods, being put in the wrong place is very high indeed. Placing just two or three pallets in the wrong place can cost the business dearly.

If a pallet of goods cannot be found, there are two serious consequences. Firstly, if that pallet of goods has a shelf life there is a risk that it will go out code and you will have to destroy it. In many cases, a firm can lose hundreds or thousands of pounds in one foul swoop when this happens.

In addition, when a pallet goods cannot be found it cannot be sent to your retail outlets. This inevitably means that the end consumer ends up being disappointed because the goods they want have not been delivered. When this happens on a regular basis, customers usually end up being fed up and begin shopping elsewhere. Poor signage in a warehouse environment can end up costing a business very dearly indeed.

Getting Signposting Right within a Warehouse

Because warehouses are busy environments, the signage used has to be of the right kind. It has to be big enough for warehouse staff to see from a distance, yet small enough not to impede the movement of goods in an out of the slot. In addition, signposting needs to be able to withstand being constantly knocked or scraped. Warehouse environments are tight to work in and people in an effort to pass constantly scrape past signage, which, if it is not a good quality, can quickly render it illegible.

The Jeka Shop specialises in providing signposting and other items for warehouses and industrial environments. Their signs are custom designed and built to last.
