A Divan Bed is a frame consisting of two separate parts, one of which is the base which is typically a wooden frame covered in material and a separate but specially manufactured mattress. They are sometimes known as Box Spring Beds which is a name given by the fact that the base as well as the mattress contains springs for a comfortable and well supported feel for the occupier, although these built in springs are more of a bonus on certain beds rather than a universal feature.
The Reputation
With its material cover, comfortable mattress and reputation for quality the Divan has been a particular favourite for many years now.
In addition to the standard manufacturing style it is possible to feature some built in storage space. It was noted some time ago that the box on which the mattress was placed was somewhat redundant and took up a lot of space. Many Divans therefore now come with the option of having up to five drawers built in to the base, coming out from each side and at the foot of the bed. Given that nothing can be slid under the actual frame for storage, having built in units is certainly a bonus for many consumers.
A further popular feature of the Divan is the way in which its frame stands on casters rather than simply on the floor, allowing for ease of movement without either injury to the person involved, especially those with limited or restricted mobility or damage to carpet or flooring.
These two features together with their affordability have made them extremely popular, although they have in the past had a reputation as being popular with the elderly.
