Why hire a van?
We are all familiar with the comments about ‘white van drivers’ and whilst many of the comments may be true, the vans are a useful method of transport on many occasions. They are versatile and will assist in transportation of many objects.

A small transit van will be comfortable to drive and will take a good-sized load. Some of these will be slightly larger than the standard transit and will have sliding side doors that will allow for another means of loading. If the van is longer than normal, the loading of the front part may not be so easy, so consider the side loading option.
Trucks that are open topped will normally have sides and back that can drop down, and this will make for ease of loading as these vehicles are normally used for garden goods and building supplies. You may load prepacked goods with ease, or if you are removing soil or building rubble, then dropping the side down will be easier.
If the amount of rubble you are moving is significant then a tipper truck may assist, as although you will need to load by hand the unloading will be one swift movement.

Vans are expected to be used for hard and dirty work, but the hire company will expect you to look after them. The hire contract needs to carefully read to see what is written about any damage you may cause. Always look for clean vans that have been lined inside with plywood as this will prevent damage and make sure the van is kept clean. Also be aware of mileage usage as excess mileage is costly.
